About Me

Where I Am From

My name is Emily Dagenhardt Rhoney.  I am from a small town called Maiden, NC.  This town is known for its high school football team.  Go Blue Devils!!!  I love being from a small town, because you can go about anywhere in the town and someone will know not only your name but will always ask how a family member is.  It gives me a since of connection, sercurtiy and warmth.  My husband and I now live in Hickory, NC.  I love living in Hickory as well.  But at heart, I am just a small town girl.

My Family

I have two wonderful parents named, Scott and Robin Dagenhardt.  They are very loving and kind.  They have been married for 30 years and are more in love now than the day they got married.  I have two ½ sisters (I just call them my “sisters”).  My oldest sister Beverly and her husband Stacey live in Maiden as well.  They have three children: Michael and Meagan (the twins) and Jessica.  My other sister Leah and her husband Kevin live in Raleigh N.C.  They have a sweet little baby named Lily.  I miss them and wish they lived closer.  I am very close with my “Granny and Papaw”.  They are very sweet and I am blessed to still have them in my life.

My Husband and Best Friend

My husband’s name is Brian Rhoney.  We actually met on a blind date.  Our blind date worked out great!  This June, we will be married for 3 years.  Brian is a very fun person to be around.  He loves to pick and make you laugh.  There is never a dull moment with Brian.  Brian works at Corning and is also in Grad school at L.R. getting his masters in business.  My husband has a very large family, which I love dearly.  We have 5 nieces on Brian’s side.  They are all very special and unique in their own ways.  Brian and I love running and hiking together.  We also enjoy going to church, serving others, Sunday afternoon naps, watching TV, hanging out with friends and family, traveling, doing projects around the house, and playing board games.  Brian and I hope to have children in our future.

What I Enjoy Doing

I enjoy spending as much time with my family and friends as I can.  They are very important to me.  I also love being involved in my church.  I am a follower of Jesus Christ, so I love spending time talking with him and reading in his word.  He is my rock and has been faithful in my life.  He is the one who gives me purpose in life.  I owe all I have to him.  I love running.  I have ran in 5 k and 10 k races.  My goal one day is to run a ½ marathon.  I also enjoy reading.  I love to read fiction romance novels, especially ones by Janet Oke or Francine Rivers.  My favorite novel I have ever read is “Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers.  It is about a young girl who faces many hard obstacles in her life.  She even tries to run away from and deeply hurt the very man who loves her un-conditionally.  The man’s love is a correlation of God’s redeeming love for us.  Francine does an amazing job depicting the love Christ has for us no matter how many times we turn our back on him.  I also really like to read Junie B. Jones books to my 1st Graders.  I enjoy teaching 1st Grade.  This is my 3rd year teaching at Granite Falls Elementary.  I have taught 1st Grade all three years. First Grade is a fun but challenging grade to teach.  I love my students and I love learning from my students.  They teach me more than I could every teach them.  I love to sit back and watch them explore and discover new things.  I eventually would like to become a reading specialist.  I want to instill my love for reading into the hearts and souls of struggling readers.  I am a chocolate lover.  I don’t know what I would do if I could not eat chocolate.  I pretty much love anything sweet as long as it has chocolate in it.  I enjoy cooking.  I am not a great cook, but I like trying new recipes.  This Christmas I made some Oreo Balls and they were a great hit.  So, I was pretty excited about that.  My favorite place to go is the mountains.  I love watching the sun rise and the sun set.  It’s breathtaking to look at God’s beautiful creation.  I also love bubble baths.  They are soooo relaxing and fun. My favorite color is blue.   I am not a big shoe wearing fan.  I love going bare footed, especially in the spring and summer.  There is something about letting the grass touch my feet and go in between my toes that makes me feel free and alive.  My favorite season is autumn.  I love the beautiful colors, crisp air, and football games.  Yes, I am a big fan of football!  I love the adrenaline rush I get at football games.  It’s amazing how I can feel excited, nervous, and anxious all at the same time.  I also like being in the pool.  I am not a great swimmer, but when summer comes I would love to stay in the pool 24/7.  I have a very tender heart, so I tend to cry a lot or show my emotions real easy.  I am known to cry when I watch Hallmark movies or really any movie for that matter.  I care about people and their well being.  I try to be sensitive to others feelings and struggles.  My husband tells me I am very gullible.  I would have to agree.  I love to laugh.  I believe laughter is good for my soul.

What I Don’t Care For

I am not a huge fan of math, especially math that goes past 4-5 grade level.  Math makes me cringe inside.  I had to work very, very hard in school to get through all my math courses.  My Husband’s great in Math—so he complements my weaknesses well.  I don’t like clutter.  I like to keep things neat and organized.  I am not a huge fan of conflict.  It makes me sick to my stomach.  I like people to get along and at least try to like each other.

  1. Thanks for sharing YOU! I must share I made my first OREO Truffles or balls over the holidays. They are so yummy! :) And easy! I hope you run that 1/2 marathon this year so that all of us can encourage you! :)

  2. Emily, I enjoyed learning more about you. I am not an expert at cooking, but I have some really easy and yummy recipes I’ll share if you are interested. After 12 years of marriage, and lots of help from Mom and Mother-in-law, I’ve managed to learn to make a few dishes pretty well. I look forward to working alongside you this semester!

  3. It sounds like we have a lot in common. I do not enjoy math. I always had to study to get good grades in math classes. I also do not care for conflict and will do whatever I can to avoid it. I love to cook, and I have been thinking about training for a 1/2 marathon.
